Casa Lux Colloseum

OUR STORY

In the 80’s after finishing BC I took a year off to travel with my French BA in hand, and I ended up working in France.  It was in Megève, a French ski resort in the Alps where I met my husband Ross Page. He had graduated the same year from BC, but we’d never met. Ross was Eurailing around Europe when we crossed paths, and rather than moving on, he moved in, and we spent that winter waiting tables and skiing.   It was the start of our wanderlust life together and we have not looked back since.

After that year abroad we were yuppies in the 80’s living in Manhattan doing commercial real estate. Looking back, it was a rollercoaster ride of career changes, early risk taking, and speculating on our future.

We decided that when we turned 30, we’d move to Italy and take a year off for a deep dive into Italian, art, language, culture, and food. What we had not anticipated was how our souls would merge completely into the fabric of Italian life.  Hence we did not return to the States after one year but instead put down roots and started our commercial property company in Milan.

This was pre EEC days, so we found ourselves on the radar of British Chartered Surveyor Companies eagerly wanting to do a merger with our small enterprise. Many UK groups were trying to gain a foothold in Milan to launch their own Pan European company.  We were acquired and business went swimmingly for a while until the Gulf War rocked the status quo (our biggest client was a Kuwaiti fund). Like everyone else we too weathered Operation Desert Storm and being entrepreneurs pivoted our business to focus on the domestic Italian property market.

Being lazer focused and fully committed has always been part of our DNA, so we happily put in the hard work required to build an Italian based Property Company. Years went by, yet thankfully we managed to fit in having two babies.  By then we had moved to Lake Maggiore, an hour north of Milan and enjoyed ten wonderful years living on the banks of the lake, commuting to Milan, sailing, playing tennis, skiing and doing home exchanges to France and Switzerland.

We like to say that we saved the best for last and that would be ROME! It went like this; Ross was hired as Asset Manager at Morgan Stanley in their new offices in Milan and was commuting in and out of Milan and flying weekly to Rome as well.  My jaw would drop hearing him speak of delicious meals served outside in famous Roman Piazzas in February!  I’d be home with the kids; looking over the fog covered Alps dutifully hauling firewood to warm the house and felt like my life was playing out inside a vacuum.  There was a major disconnected and I finally said BASTA! Let’s move to Rome!

9/11 had just happened and this became an awakening moment for me! I felt I needed to rejoin the living and be back in a city. So we hired the movers and drove the two cars south to Rome. So began the next phase of our adventure together.

Now that we are empty nesters we cannot stop moving! Travel has always been an integral part of life and we are back exploring another continent.  Asia has been our most recent destination, and on our first trip to Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand, Ross had a good feeling about the developing property market, and so we bought an apartment on spec, and have been enjoying the winters and summers in Thailand these past four years.

Now we’re only in Rome intermittently so we've been pleased to welcome friends, and friends  of friends to rent our apartment for short term lets.

Our centrally located apartment is an oasis of calm amidst the backdrop of the Roman Forums, and the Coliseum. Our neighborhood is called Monti, which remains an old world of cobble stone streets, cafes restaurants, boutiques, open air markets, and has our amazing Piazza Madonna di Monti.   From Monti you can walk all over Rome and see the monuments easily on foot, or hop the Metro which is just across the street from our place.

Come experience the Eternal City for yourself! Attend an unforgettable audience with the Pope and visit the Vatican Museums!  An authentic Roman holiday is waiting for you and you’ll be living like a Roman in our spacious, home.  We are here to assist you with your planning.
